Easy Baked Potato in the Ninja Foodi Air Fryer
Is there a better potato than a baked potato? We aren’t sure there is. But the baked potato just got better, and easier, in the Ninja Foodi Air Fryer!
Ya’ll I am back again talking about my Ninja Foodi. I am telling you that you have to get one for your kitchen! It is the greatest thing since sliced bread. One of my favorite thing to use the air fryer function for is baked potatoes.
I am a big meat and tater kind of gal, and baked potatoes are hands down my favorite kind of potato. I can remember going to Western Sizzlin’ as a kid after church on Sunday’s and always getting a steak and baked potato.
I thought I was something else!
If you don’t have your Ninja Foodi yet we love ours and highly recommend it at a must have kitchen gadget!
What makes a perfect baked potato?
There are lots of way to make a baked potato!
Growing up, I remember my momma just poking some holes in it and throwing it into the microwave.
Just a heads up, that is not the perfect way to make a baked potato. Sorry mom!
While microwaving is quick, it always leaves a hard rubbery spot on the bottom of the potato and you’re lucky if it is evenly cooked all the way through.
So what does a perfect baked potato look like if it is not the microwaved rubber of my childhood?
The perfect baked potato should have a crispy slightly salted skin and a fluffy buttery soft inside that melts in your mouth.
With proper planning and enough time, the perfect baked potato can be yours straight from the over…
Problem is that I don’t always have proper planning when it comes to deciding on dinner….
Enter stage right Ninja Foodi Air Fryer for the save!
The air fryer takes the bake time of the baked potato way down while still providing the perfect baked potato! Bonus points for not heating the kitchen way up in the summer too!
So now that we have busted the myth that baked potatoes take forever to bake if you don’t want to eat rubber, let’s chat about the best potato to use for your baked potato.
What is the best potato to use for a baked potato?
Russet potatoes are hands down the best baking potatoes. These all purpose taters have low moisture content that allows for a crispy perfect skin and a light and fluffy inside.
When choosing the perfect baking potato, you should choose a medium sized potato. I find the perfect size for a baked potato side is about the length of my hand from palm to fingertip.
If you are making your baked potato your main course (we do this a lot!) then you may want to go a little bigger.
The key is that the potatoes you are baking should all roughly be the same size for even cooking.
Baked Potato in the Ninja Foodi Air fryer Step By Step
Now that we have the perfect potato, let’s get to baking!
Step 1
Scrub your taters clean! I do this by rinsing the potatoes first under warm water then sprinkling them with about a half a teaspoon of baking soda. I rub this into the skin all over then rinse for a perfectly cleaned potato. Pat dry
Step 2
Next, I prick the potatoes with a fork all over and then rub the potatoes down with about a teaspoon of olive oil. You can use whatever kind of fat you would like here. Bacon grease would make a tasty potato skin!
Sprinkle generously with salt.
Step 3
Place the potatoes in the air fryer. Avoid touching so they can get evenly cooked. I can fit about four to five medium sized potatoes in my air fryer.
Step 4
Set your Ninja Foodi to Air Fry and adjust the temperature to 400 degrees. Set your timer for thirty minutes and let the magic begin! The potatoes are done when a knife can be inserted into the middle and does not meet any resistance.
Step 5
When the potatoes are done, carefully remove them from the air fryer (they will be hot!). Immediately cut down the middle and squeeze end to end to fluff the potato insides. Add a sprinkle of salt and the rest of your toppings and you are in business!
What toppings should I put on my baked potato?
Oh man I love this question! Mainly because the possibilities are endless!!
You can do a traditional baked potato of course with bacon, butter, cheese, and sour cream. This is the quintessential side dish for a big juicy steak!
We also recommend olives as a great addition to a baked potato. If you have never tried this you should! The salty brine of the olive is the perfect pop of acid against the butteriness of the baked potato.
Some of our other favorite toppings are
- deli meat- ham and turkey are our favs! Add the traditional toppings above and you have a full meal!
- broccoli and cheddar
- chili and cheese
- Mexican with taco meat, salsa, cheese, and sour cream
- Philly Steak with thinly sliced steak, cooked peppers and onions topped with mozzarella (you could totally cheat here and use something like Steakums
- Roasted Vegetarian Baked Potato is a great way to dress up a tater. Roast your favorite veggies like Cauliflower, Broccoli, Carrots, and Brussel Sprouts with a little olive oil, salt and pepper until tender then stuff into your baked potato and top with fresh cut chives!
- Baked Potato for Breakfast! Top with scrambled eggs, cheese, pickled jalapeños, chives, and bacon for a perfect breakfast baked potato!
There are seriously so many different variations of baked potatoes we could be here all day y’all! Stuffing a baked potato is one of the easiest ways to use up leftovers.

Very interesting!
GRAZIE!
My father in law would like to buy and air fryer, he has been considering several models but he hasn’t taken any decision yet, so I will surely tell him about your advice.

he will love it! I wish we would have gone with the 8 quart over the 6.5 but that is just because we have 5 of us. The 6.5 does just fine for us though. I hope he gets one and loves it!!

I did not know I could use an airfryer for potatoes, but it looks like they cook in half the time they would in the oven so I am inspired! You cannot go wrong with a loaded baked potato. 🙂

I do my baked potatoes in my air-fryer too in much the same way (olive oil and salt) but mine go in for longer (probably a difference in brand, etc). I absolutely love the crisp outer skin and the fluffy insides! Yum!
