Snack Day has become a bit of a family tradition at the Young house. It is a BIG deal that generates a lot of excitement from all of us. We take every opportunity we can to create a Snack Day and spend the day nibbling on our favorite snack items, playing board games, and watching movies. I am not sure how this tradition came about, but I am sure glad it did.

I have always loved being in the kitchen, and enjoy those days that I can spend the day cooking for my family. Snack Day gives me the opportunity to turn out some of our favorite dishes all day long without having to commit to a full fledge meal. It also removes the fight from dinner time with two small kids that sometimes don’t want to clean their plates of what I fixed for dinner because they would rather be playing with their action figures. Snack day to the rescue with all day nosh available for them to graze on at their will.

We discovered that a day of favorite snacks was the best way for us to spend a day bonding as a family. Since, we have made Snack Day a staple for our Christmas Eve Celebration and random days in the week that we just need a break from the mundane. It is a fun way to bring us all together.

Snack Days are also perfect for us because my family loves to eat. I mean we SERIOUSLY love to eat. My kids are like bottomless pits and would eat all day every day if I let them, especially if it is at their will verses me making them sit around a dinner table.

We have never really had a family of picky eaters which makes dinner fairly easy, but snack days really allow us all to have our favorites whenever we want them. The only rule at snack day is, no double dipping. The kids own what they want to eat and when they want to eat it. I limit the amount of sugary confections available to just a few small items like mini pies and load up on good for you veggies and fruits that the kids love to avoid sugar highs.

Planning Your Snack Day

Snack days take some planning and we want to maintain their special occasion quality so they really only occur every few months or so at our house. But the entire day eating nothing but bite sized nosh is well worth the little bit of planning and waiting that goes into our Snack Day. It starts in the AM and does not end until time for bed. It is a constant cycle of new snacks being introduced to the table throughout the day and a refill of favorite snackables.

The table is a beautiful display of colorful dishes topped with our favorite treats. The kitchen is filled with delicious smells that waft through the air mix and mingle in a tantalizing and mouthwatering way. The day is wonderful, start to finish.

What you serve at your Snack Day is really up to you, but we do have some favorites here at Hackett Hill Farm. Nothing fancy, but all delicious. The important thing is that it is all the things you and your family love. I prefer to cook all day, but if you aren’t someone that likes to cook, no worries. There are tons of store bought options that are just as delicious. Here are some of our Snack Day treats. We hope you enjoy!

Charcuterie Board

One of my snack day must have is a charcuterie board. What better snacking is there than the bite size delectables displayed on a beautiful board or tray? The perfect tray for snack day, in my opinion will have a mixture of textures and flavors and lots of options to choose from. You can make your board as big or as small as your family wants. We have had massive boards for larger get togethers or simple small boards like the one pictured below when it is just the five of us. Here are some of my charcuterie board must haves.

While the Charcuterie Board is typically our main focal point of Snack day, we always have a few other cameos that pop up depending on how we are feeling. A mixture of sweet and savory that will keep you coming back to the table all day long. Here are a few of our favorites!

Well until Christmas eve I had never experienced snack day. But we loved it. Course it could have been the company that we were in.🤗

This is such a cool idea! I love it. And I love snacks! I could easily eat just snacks for a full day and it sounds like a really fun time with family too. Thanks for sharing this idea!

Snack Day sounds absolutely genius — I love the charcuterie board! The ideas you’ve shared are amazing, I think I will have to give this a try! It’s just me and my husband at home so we can adapt it for the two of us. Thanks so much for this piece of foodie bliss!
