Easy DIY Twine Eggs
Ya’ll I am over the moon for these Easy DIY Twine Eggs! They are so simple to make and turned out so stinking cute. I am already thinking about what else I can wrap twine around. A few weeks back I started putting out my spring decorations. I typically don’t really decorate for spring because I have so little decorations that it is more of a pain to get the tote out than anything. So I have just left it in the top of the loft and have refrained from buying any additional spring decorations. But now we are slowly starting to take my totes to the farmhouse after each…

Sustainability For All
One of my goals in 2021 is to start moving my family towards a path of sustainability. In my mind, I envisioned this as taking steps towards minimizing our need for the super market. I planned to do this through the growth of our own garden started from seed and preserving our harvest. I also saw this come to life in the reusing of items from the home renovation to go towards other projects at the farm. This decision would enable us to avoid purchasing wood in excessive amounts as well as build character into the farm. Even the move towards building our herds and flocks to provide for our…

Guilt of a Working Parent
As I sit at my kitchen table this morning typing and waiting for my coffee to finish brewing so I can start off my day, a wave a guilt and sadness wash over me. It is seven A.M. and I have been up since six, showering and getting the day started. So why this sadness now as I sit here at my kitchen table? Maybe it’s the absence of chaos this morning. By seven I should hear those sleepy footsteps padding from their bedroom to snuggle in my lap. Those snuggles quickly breaking way to four year old superheroes running full speed through the house. But this morning, like ever Monday…

Hello! We are Cookies and Cream the Holsteins!
Cookies and Cream the Holsteins came to the farm at about three weeks of age. They were small and sweet and still on the bottle. The boys picked them from the group of ten and said they were ours. I will never forget the ride home with them the night we picked them up. My husband sprawled in the back of the F-150 holding them as we drove to their new home away from their brothers. We got home, in the early dusk. He hopped out covered in cow manure because the little guys had been so scared. That was the beginning! The kids fell in love with them. We…

Hello! I’m Archie the Donkey!
“Hello! I’m Archie the Donkey! I am a three year old Jerusalem Donkey. Hackett Hill Farm became my new home in November of 2020 when I came to live with my new family the Young’s. I like to eat carrots and apples, but sweet feed is my favorite. Other animals annoy me a lot, but dogs are my least favorite animals of all. Everyone says I am a little grumpy, but I just like a nice quiet life on my North Hill of Hackett Hill Farm. Thanks for stopping by to read the story of how I came to this hill.” All About the Animals As I was feeding one…

Snack Day Favorites
Snack Day has become a bit of a family tradition at the Young house. It is a BIG deal that generates a lot of excitement from all of us. We take every opportunity we can to create a Snack Day and spend the day nibbling on our favorite snack items, playing board games, and watching movies. I am not sure how this tradition came about, but I am sure glad it did. I have always loved being in the kitchen, and enjoy those days that I can spend the day cooking for my family. Snack Day gives me the opportunity to turn out some of our favorite dishes all day…
